Tachycardia is Often Not the Most Bothersome POTS Symptom

For many with POTS, tachycardia (fast heartbeat) is not the most bothersome symptom. In fact, some don’t even notice it.

This can delay diagnosis when a healthcare provider expects a patient to report this symptom, while the patient is more focused on other, more noticeable issues such as fatigue, lightheadedness, headache, brain fog, or GI symptoms.

Tachycardia can definitely be the most bothersome POTS symptom for some. For others, it might be very noticeable one day and barely there the next.

And yes, identifying tachycardia as a POTS symptom to begin with requires healthcare providers to be aware that the condition exists and a willingness to look into it.

The takeaway: Even though tachycardia is a key part of the diagnostic criteria for POTS, it’s often not the main concern people bring up to their healthcare providers when trying to figure out what’s going on.
